kindness.

Today, I will be talking about the importance of kindness.

Read Ephesians 4:17-32 (in ESV- click here for passage).

“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”

Ephesians 4:32

We all have influence. Influence over ourselves and others. We set an example for those around us. The question is, are we setting a good example?

What exactly does example mean?

ex·am·ple
/ig’zampǝl/

noun

1. a thing characteristic of its kind or illustrating a general rule.

2. a person or thing regarded in terms of their fitness to be imitated or the likelihood of their being imitated.

verb
1. be illustrated or exemplified.

Dictionary

We illustrate the kind of person we are. We set examples. As long, as the example we are setting (the picture we are illustrating) for others, is something we would be proud of, something God would be proud of, I’d say it’s a good example.

Our opinion of ourself matters. The way we think of our actions and choices matters. If we care about the way we present ourself and the example we are setting, we should make sure we are setting the best example we can.

I think the saying above perfectly applies itself to what I am talking about. Just as my “Bible Verse of the Week” says below, the kindness we give to ourselves, is automatically displayed toward others. If we show ourselves kindness, we display kindness, and therefore, are treated with kindness. If not, we are only hurting ourselves (Proverbs 11:17).

We all have a certain charisma. People notice things. They notice how we act, how we talk, etc. They notice whether we display kindness or not. Personally, I notice these things in people. I’ll think to myself, “Oh, she’s so nice!” or “I don’t want to associate myself with someone so negative.” As humans, we are quick to judge. So, let the people who judge us, notice kindness.

One of Disney’s campaigns is “Choose Kindness” (click here for more information). People notice. Disney noticed; they noticed that we all need kindness in our lives! Just remember that whatever we do, someone is always seeing the example we are setting. So, let us set one we would be proud of. Let us set an example God would be proud of. Let us be kind!

Bible Verse of the Week:

“A man who is kind benefits himself, but a cruel man hurts himself.” ⌁Proverbs 11:17
